RADIAX

Open desktop micro-CT

Micro-CT you can open up.

RadiaX is a desktop micro-CT platform built from scratch: custom X-ray hardware, an FPGA compute core, a purpose-built detector and modular mechanics. An open design, so you can see inside the scanner as well as the sample.

CT-Main.steploading

The scanner’s own CAD from the repository, drawn in characters. Small fasteners are left out. Toggle the shell to see the mechanics inside. Drag to rotate.

01 — Why

Most CT scanners are sealed boxes.

Closed systems are hard to repair, hard to extend and hard to understand. When your work needs a different detector, a new trajectory or another reconstruction method, you wait for a vendor.

RadiaX is built the other way round. Every subsystem is a module with documented interfaces, so labs and developers can service it, modify it and build on it.

02 — Platform

Four subsystems, designed together.

X-ray system

Dual-tube architecture for different imaging scenarios, with high-voltage isolation, mineral-oil cooling and a magnetic filter in development to cut low-energy X-rays.

Detector

A custom scintillator-based CIS detector, developed around RadiaX geometry instead of adapted from an off-the-shelf panel.

Compute

A custom FPGA module for high-speed detector acquisition, signal processing and hardware-accelerated reconstruction.

Mechanics

Mark 2 modular frame with motorized rotary and linear axes and a direct-coupled rotation drive, checked with static, dynamic and modal FEA.

03 — Process

From sample to volume.

1

Position

Mount the sample on the 3-axis stage and set the geometry between tube, object and detector.

2

Acquire

The sample rotates while the detector streams projections to the FPGA for capture and pre-processing.

3

Reconstruct

Conventional reconstruction first. AI-assisted processing is planned alongside it, not as a black-box replacement.

04 — Audience

For people who need to look inside, and change how.

Research labs

A scanner you can instrument, modify and cite, with access to the whole acquisition chain.

Universities

Real hardware for teaching CT physics, detectors, embedded design and reconstruction.

Hardware developers

Open mechanics, boards and FPGA platform as a base for your own imaging projects.

Makers and engineers

Small-part inspection on the desktop, with a design you can understand end to end.

05 — Status

Honest about where we are.

RadiaX is under active development. Design files are published in the public repository as they are cleaned up. Early-access partners help decide what ships first.
